Shelter began life in 2021 with the project title, In the Bunker. This name inspired us to write lyrics centred around a family forced to go into an air-raid shelter. The story is told from the point of view of a parent, desperate to hold it together for the good of their family, despite fears for their future. This theme is a metaphor for those suffering with mental health issues, or emotional trauma whilst trying to hide it from the world.
It’s astonishing how poignant this track has unintentionally become given the tragic situation in Ukraine and how something initially intended to be fiction is now the reality for so many people who are close to our homes. ‘Shelter’ is on sale on our website with all profits going to the Disasters Emergency Committee. A leading charity aiding the relief effort in Ukraine.
